The Mount Vernon public school system has 11 elementary schools, two middle schools,
one comprehensive high school and one alternative high school. The elementary
schools were named the most improved schools in NYS on the ELA Assessment while both
high schools have a strong academic program. Adult education programs are also
available. There are also several parochial schools and one Montessori school.
Westchester Community College has opened an Extension Site on Gramatan Avenue.
