--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PRESS RELEASE District Attorney Jeanine Pirro is Guest
Speaker At
“Identity
theft is the number one financial crime of the information age.”
stated District Attorney Jeanine Pirro. Businesses and financial
institutions’ losses from identity theft totaled nearly $50 billion
last year, while consumers reported an additional $5 billion in
out-of-pocket expenses. Identity theft is committed by stealing, taking,
or using another person’s identification information for the purpose
of assuming that person’s identity for some personal gain. District
Attorney Pirro told an audience of almost fifty members of the Chamber
of Commerce that businesses are also falling prey to corporate identity
thieves at alarming rates. The payoff is greater and frequently the
crimes won’t be reported. Corporate identity theft is often done by a
corrupt employee. Businesses
should improve their internal security procedures, separate duties and
responsibilities among staff for checks and balances, monitor
employee’s access to sensitive information, and implement periodic
audits of all financial records and credit card usage. Combating
identity theft requires reporting and responsible actions by citizens,
business and financial institutions. The District Attorney took questions from the audience at the end of her presentation. The members of the Chamber of Commerce were very grateful for the wealth of information she shared with the group.

PRESS RELEASE Mount Memory Training Session
- June 21, 2004 Matthew
Goerke, a memory training specialist, shared techniques for developing
instant recall memory with Chamber members. He is regarded as one of Matthew
asked the audience how many times had they been introduced to an
individual and a few minutes later, turned to that person and said “What
was your name again?” It’s embarrassing, frustrating and lessens your
credibility and confidence. “As you shake the person’s hand,” he
said, “slow down, clear your mind, focus and repeat the person’s
name.” This technique will help you achieve greater recall. Business
is all about people and the mind is the most important tool we use when
doing business with people. The brain is like a file cabinet – all the
important information is there. We have to learn to organize the data so
that we can recall it in a timely manner.
